The controversial video features Madonna as a woman who witnesses the murder of a white girl by three white men, and the arrest of a black man who attempted to intervene and save the victim, but was falsely accused of the crime. After his arrest, Madonna flees to the church for safety, and she prays to Saint Martin de Porres, then she kisses him and he, crying, comes to life. Madonna joins a gospel choir singing and dancing the song and afterward, she testifies for the black man's innocence which ends with him about to be released. In the end of the video, we can tell that it was all a theatre play.

ResponderExcluirShe was witness of a white girl's murder by three white guys, and a black guy tried that tried to help the murdered girl, he is taked like the crime's author, we can see in the lyrics that Madonna is disturbed by the secene that she saw, and she went to some church to pray I think, and she have a feeling like God talking with her that she needs do something to help the guy.
The religious symbols are the cross, the church, the stigmas at her hands, and the choir. I did not understand, is the representation at the video?
The scenes that made the catholic church criticise the video are when some crosses are burning, and when she kiss a guy that is dressed like the catholic image of Jesus, that is really polemic.
I couldn't find these interpretations that you are talking about, one of them I think I could see just listening the music, she is saying that God is important for her life, and he is with her all the time, but after saw the video maybe we can see another interpretation that I couldn't got it.
If you don't see the video you can think that she is talking about some lover too, but i don't know...
I'm sure that the video try to represent the first interpretation.
